Ceramics’ need-to-know & nice-to-know
The ceramics workshop at UKH is open to all experience levels within the world of clay. The workshop operates on a first-come, first-served basis – and once you’ve paid the 40 DKK entrance fee, you’re welcome to use the facilities for the entire day.
Pottery wheels must be booked in 3-hour time slots (maximum 2 slots per week).
Currently, you can book wheels directly by signing up at the workshop or by calling the office at 41 87 45 44. We do not accept bookings via text message or email.
You can likewise call the office, if you have any questions, that you don’t find answered below.
FAQ:
Who can use the open ceramics workshop?
The workshop is open to young people between the ages of 15 and 30 who want to work with clay – both beginners and experienced participants are welcome.
Cleaning
You are required to clean up after yourself in the area where you have been working. If any tools or supplies are missing, please contact a volunteer or the office.

Do I need to sign up, or can I just show up?
During the workshop’s opening hours, you can simply drop in, but you need to book time slots for the pottery wheels. The wheel must be cleaned by the end of your booked session.
I’m late for my booked time at one of the pottery wheels – what happens now?
If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for your booked time at the pottery wheel, your slot will be forfeited and someone else may take it. If no one has taken it by the time you arrive, you are welcome to keep it.

Oven and ceramic firing
UKH has kilns where we fire your pieces. The frequency of firings depends on when the kilns can be filled. We aim to fire one glaze firing and one bisque firing each week.
How long it takes before your pieces are ready depends on how full the kiln is – but expect 1–3 weeks. You will be notified either via a notice or directly when your pieces are ready for collection.
NB! Clay can crack or explode during firing. We cannot guarantee that everything survives – but we will help you figure out why it happened.
The kilns are only for workshop activities and UKH-related projects. We do not offer private kiln rental.
When a firing is finished, we try to post a picture in the workshop’s Facebook group of the pieces that have come out.
Ceramics that are not collected within 5 weeks may be discarded or used in the workshop as examples.
Do I need to bring my own tools and materials?
We have most of the tools you need, but you are also welcome to bring your own – as long as it is not electric equipment.
You may not bring your own materials. Only materials purchased at the workshop may be fired in the oven.
Can i bring my friends?
Yes, as long as they are within the age group and follow the workshop rules, it’s open to everyone!
Ceramics courses
Our ceramics workshop is open and self-managed. This means it operates on a help-yourself basis, so it’s helpful to know the basic skills – and, of course, we all take care of the shared tools and clean up after ourselves.
Is there someone who can help me if I’m a beginner?
For complete beginners and curious newcomers, we recommend joining one of our many ceramics courses. These can be found in the calendar here on our website or under our Facebook events (link above).
Prices for the courses vary slightly but are usually between 350–450 DKK, all included. Payment is made via MobilePay box: 42306 (we are working on a digital payment solution for you without MobilePay, but for now: cash).
