User or volunteer?
We expect all users to help maintain daily order and well-being in the house: tidying up after themselves, making coffee, doing the dishes, and generally taking good care of the house and working together as a team.
We don’t call this volunteering – we call it community.
Being a volunteer at UKH means getting involved in the running of the house and its community beyond the daily routines. It’s a great way to get to know the house and other young people – and you help shape what UKH will be like.
Volunteer roles can include anything from:
Taking a barshift or helping with setup and cleanup for events, concerts, and similar activities.
Planning and hosting themed evenings for the benefit of the community and house users (e.g., karaoke, bingo, etc.).
Giving tours and acting as a ‘host’.
Cooking for communal meals.
Creating content for social media.
Organizing UKH house meetings or participating in the Village Assembly.
Taking responsibility for maintenance and development of workshops.
…or something entirely different that you feel the house needs.
Workshop-volunteer
Our workshop volunteers are often connected through a formal agreement. This means committing, for example, 2–5 hours per week in ceramics or another workshop – and in return, you get access outside opening hours, discounts on materials, the opportunity to facilitate workshops, and to share responsibility for running the workshop.
These agreements can also lead to a volunteer certificate or reference – but this requires a more sustained and active effort, not just a few occasional barshifts.
Organizer
Do you want to start something at UKH? A film club, a cooking club, a concert, an art exhibition, or a workshop? Then you’re an organizer.
You’re in charge of the idea and execution – and the UKH office is happy to help you get started.

Note! If you organize something as part of an external association, community, or group, you are not a UKH volunteer – you are an organizer on behalf of your group. But you are very welcome to join us.

The easiest way is to hop onto our Discord, where you can:
- Message the individual workshops
- Follow #all-workspaces or #all-volunteers-private (you just need to request access)
- Keep an eye on events and tasks you can get involved in
